Odoo for High Tech Manufacturing, PLM Integration and Clean Foreign Currency Import Accounting
A high tech manufacturer that builds complex engineered products came to us with two problems standard ERP systems usually fail to solve. The first was the manual grind of copying product structures out of their engineering software by hand. The second was a steady stream of errors in import accounting when buying in foreign currency. Over a few months we built a complete Odoo solution and put it into daily use.
Challenge
The company's engineers manage every product structure in a separate PLM system. This runs from the smallest component up to complex assemblies. Moving that data into Odoo by hand would have been a hopeless job. Hundreds of items. Several depth levels. Constant version changes. Any mistake there is expensive, and the time it would take is simply too much to absorb.
Accounting was an even bigger headache. The company buys goods in foreign currency, and the standard system recorded the goods receipt and the supplier invoice at different exchange rates. As a result the inventory value never matched, and the system generated entries the accountant could neither correct nor cancel. The finance team was stuck.
Solution
We built a connector that brings an engineered product structure into Odoo with a single click. Data from the PLM system rebuilds the full product layout in the Odoo catalog automatically, items, categories, units of measure, and the technical detail behind each one. That includes manufacturer, materials, versions, weights, drawing references, and production operations.
To keep the process safe, the data first lands in a draft. The engineer reviews everything, confirms it, and only then do the products appear in the live list. The automation does the heavy work while the person keeps control.
We fixed the accounting problems by aligning the exchange rate between the goods receipt and the invoice. The inventory value now builds up correctly and the numbers match. On top of that we sorted out advance payment revaluation, reverse charge VAT, and the full set of Lithuanian reporting requirements, i.SAF, the FR0600 declaration, and clean VAT reports.
Alongside this we configured the manufacturing and inventory processes, including internal transfers and stock replenishment, plus the CRM and project modules. For exports we prepared dedicated invoices that automatically carry HS codes, weights, Incoterms, and amounts written out in words.
Result
Engineering data now drops into Odoo in seconds, with none of the rewriting errors that came from manual entry. Import accounting works precisely. The inventory value matches the invoices, and the accountant no longer has to fight entries that were impossible to fix. Lithuanian reporting and reverse charge VAT run without trouble.
The system took hold in real production. One more thing matters here. The client received the full source code as their own property, so they are not tied to a single vendor.
